Scaling Google Ads really comes down to one simple question:
How fast can you increase ad spend without crushing your margins in the process?
In a perfect world, you’d just keep scaling forever while holding the same ROAS.
But that’s not how this works in reality.
Scaling usually means reaching a wider, colder audience.
When that happens, CPA rises.
On top of that…
A portion of the extra budget often gets wasted on stuff that doesn’t generate a return, chipping away at your profitability.
Poor-performing keywords
Products with poor ROI
Weak placements & asset groups
Creatives that don’t land
Etc
Then there’s the pacing side of it.
How quickly you scale spend matters too.
Go too fast, and you can throw off the algorithm.
This is why the usual advice is sticking to 10-20% budget increases at a time since it’s the safer route.
That said, there are situations where you can push much harder.
A few months ago, we scaled one of a brand’s Demand Gen campaigns from $8.4K to $70.7K in 30 days.
An 8.4x increase.

And that only worked because of 3 things.
ONE
We understood their unit economics and knew how much ROAS they could handle while being profitable.
Back in January, this campaign spent $8.4K at a 1.5X ROAS.
For many brands, that would already be tough to sustain.
But this brand runs a subscription model with strong retention.
So the backend LTV from a new customer is way higher than the first order value.
Which meant:
We could afford a worse ROAS and the economics would still work out.
Another thing many people miss is that…
Google’s reported ROAS usually understates actual performance, especially on prospecting.
Google might show a 1.0x ROAS while TripleWhale shows 1.3x after cross-channel attribution gets factored in.
For this account, we made every scaling decision based on TripleWhale data.
TWO
We also saw clear scaling potential in the campaign itself.
Right after launching it, the signals were pretty obvious.
As spend increased, purchases increased with it while ROAS stayed relatively stable.
When that happens, it means there’s still plenty of room left to scale.
And you can push it a bit more aggressively.
So in the following month…
We increased spend and watched how every change affected performance on a daily basis.
As long as performance stayed within the targets we mapped out in the first part, we kept pushing.
THREE
Now, you’re probably wondering:
“What made the 2nd point possible? How could a campaign keep scaling like that?”
Well, since this was a Demand Gen campaign, it came down to 2 things:
The creative connected with the audience
The landing page converted
When the funnel lines up with a specific audience…
Scaling spend means reaching more people inside that same pocket, and the campaign keeps working.
This didn’t happen by accident though.
Every week we tested 10 new videos trying to find winners.
We also split by device and audience targeting so we could see what was working and cut what wasn't
Then we had dedicated landing pages around that audience and creative angle.
That’s the formula behind scaling spend.
First, you need to understand your unit economics so you know how far you can push ROAS.
Then you increase spend and watch whether those numbers continue holding.
And what raises the ceiling on that scale is having a funnel that’s aligned with the audience.
When you have those 3 pieces, you can push campaigns very aggressively… sometimes much faster than what’s recommended.
