How we scaled a brand from $21K/mo to $336K/mo Google ad spend

It always surprises me how little big brands understand about Google.
The other month, I spoke at an ecom event where I shared some of the strategies we run for clients.
I was in a room full of 8 and 9 figure brand owners. Some much lower.
As I walked through the strategies we run for clients, I noticed that... and most of it was completely new to them.
That honestly caught me off guard.
Because to us, these strategies are somewhat… basic.
We’ve been implementing them for years and make tons of money for clients.
That’s when I realized:
There's a huge disconnect between how Google works today and how people think it works.
Google has changed a lot in the past few years.
But the public perception of "how to run Google Ads" is stuck in 2020.
People still think Google is all about managing keywords and bidding on high-intent terms.
I've lost count of how many times I've heard this on sales calls:
“I don’t know you can run TOF on Google.”
“Isn’t it just good for remarketing social media?”
But the reality is…
Google now gives you many ways to reach cold audiences and drive demand from the top of the funnel.
In other words, the game has shifted.
It’s now about creating profitable pathways across the entire customer journey.
I’ll give you some examples to make this more concrete.
Targeting informational keywords used to be considered a terrible idea.
(Think about bidding on “how to start running” to sell a running shoe)
eCom brands usually dismiss them because they think they’re “too broad” or “won’t lead to sales.”
And I get it. These keywords don't have high buying intent baked into them.
But you can create that intent… by guiding people through the right path.
You can send traffic to an advertorial that educates first, then subtly introduces your product as the solution.
Or take YouTube Ads, for instance.
One approach that's crushing it right now is sending traffic through a quiz funnel.
You get people to engage with your brand…
You address their biggest objections upfront…
And then you deliver a personalized recommendation based on their answers.
Just like that, you've tapped into massive audience segments that everyone else wrote off as "unprofitable."
Those audiences were always sitting there. You just needed the right funnel to activate them.
And here’s the great thing about this:
If you don’t have these kinds of funnels in your strategy…
You'll see dramatic improvements almost immediately once you get them working.

There’s no way we could hit these numbers so quickly without these top-of-funnel plays…
Ones that these brands either didn't know existed or wrote off as impossible to reach profitably.
