the ugly truth about Google Ads

You’ll need a proven roadmap with reliable strategies that have worked over and over again.

5 days ago, I had a conversation with an old friend.

He was feeling a bit lost and wanted to get into the online business space.

He asked me…

‘Should I start a Google Ads Agency?”

Initially, my instinct was to say yes.

I mean… I’m the Google Ads guy, after all.

I built a $300k MRR agency and all we do is Google Ads.

But my final answer was no.

I wouldn’t advise any beginners to get into it.

I’m not saying it’s impossible to succeed, but…

It’s definitely going to be an uphill battle.

2 main reasons why:

1. Google Ad is confusing asf, especially for a beginner

Google’s platform is designed to cater to a wide range of advertisers with different experience levels and needs.

This means it has a bunch of advanced features…

Which is extremely beneficial for experts like my team.

We can squeeze out every last drop of profits with these little details.

But for a beginner?

They’ll have difficulty learning all this stuff and figuring out which one to use and when to use them.

It’ll be a steep learning curve.

2. Cost is rising

Advertising costs on Google are rising, and guess what?

They will keep rising.

There’s no way around it.

Does it make Google less effective and profitable?

No.

But only if you know what you’re doing.

If you’re starting out with Google Ads…

High chances are…

You will make many mistakes and burn a ton of money early on.

Expecting to jump in and get this all going is a battle that most fail and bleed money.

When I started my agency in 2020, it took me 20 months to get my first client.

20 months.

Here’s the worst part…

I couldn’t for the life of me deliver results for them.

Every campaign I ran was a complete failure.

And as expected…

2 months later, they left.

How embarrassing was that?

That’s what I’m saying to eCom brands wanting to get into Google Ads too.

If you plan to join this war, be prepared.

A few months ago…

A brand spoke to us after spending months learning and running Google Ads themselves.

No matter how much they tried…

They were still unprofitable.

When we audited their account, they were burning money everywhere on the ineffective and outdated strategies.

Not to mention that…

They still had other aspects of the business to manage and couldn’t keep up with Google Ads' constant changes.

And they didn’t even enjoy running Google ads anyway.

I don’t want to sound negative, but…

This is often the case for many brands trying to run Google Ads.

So, you’ll need a proven roadmap with reliable strategies that have worked repeatedly.

We do this at Echelonn.
